It’s the first week of Summer Break! I finally get a break! Woohoo! I think I’m more excited than the kids are. That’s probably because I still have them doing math, reading, music and additional learning daily. Summer Break is mostly for Mama in this house. There really wasn’t much to report. Last week’s busyness was countered by the ease and tranquility of this week. We lazed around in the air conditioning, picnicked at Sunset, ate out with old friends and played at the park. We are very relaxed around here.
Church in the Park
With so little happening in our household, I was very happy to hear several good reports from some of the people who go to our little church. I laughed with joy at the story that one of the guys shared at church this morning.
One of our guys was sitting on the sidewalk at 3 in the morning. In Waikiki, you can’t go onto the beach until 5 am. He was waiting for the beach to open, reading his Bible, when a guy walked up to him.
“What are you doing?” he said.
“Reading the Bible.”
“Yeah right…Read me something from it!” the man barked.
So, he read the scripture out loud. Before he knew it, the guy confessed to having some Crystal Meth on him. He asked our friend what he should do with it.
“You could smoke it, sell it, or you could give it to God and see what God does,” he said.
“I need to do something aggressive.”
At this point, our friend was a little freaked out because he wasn’t sure what was going to happen. Was he going to hit him? Was this guy going to hurt himself or someone else? Then our friend watched as this guy pulled out his crack pipe and smashed it on the ground.
I laughed and cheered when I heard this story. This druggie in Waikiki just encountered a son of God on the streets of Waikiki and decided that he had to smash his ice pipe! The Mama Bear in me got a little upset about the glass all over the ground. (My son likes to run around Waikiki without shoes on his feet.) But it turns out that our friend spent the next hour cleaning up the mess. 🙂
Our Week in Photos
We had a fantastic week. We also went out with our friends. Jim and Jess Baker are in town and took us to Outback while some of our friends at YWAM watched the kiddos. I also went and tried a class at Orange Theory. I killed it. I couldn’t help but wonder if my huge, seemingly endless tank of energy was due to the Ketogenic Diet…that I didn’t follow this weekend. Hahaha! We laughed, we played, we loved. And a good time was had by all!
